September – Growing with Nature: Awakening with the Season

"Look closely at nature, and you will discover that nothing is ever truly standing still. Every leaf, every stream, every sunrise, and every changing season reminds us that life is always moving, always growing, always becoming."

There is something quietly magical about the arrival of spring.

After the stillness of winter, the earth begins to awaken. Tiny green shoots push their way through the soil. Trees that stood bare for months begin to dress themselves in fresh leaves. Birds return with their morning songs, and flowers open gently to the warmth of the sun.

Nature never rushes.

It does not compare itself to yesterday.

It does not question whether it is growing quickly enough.

It simply follows its own rhythm.

As I walk through gardens, forests, or along the coastline, I am reminded that perhaps we, too, are part of this rhythm. We are not separate from nature—we belong to it. The same breath that moves through the trees moves through us. The same seasons that shape the earth also shape our lives.

Spring reminds us that every ending carries the possibility of a new beginning.

Nature as Our Teacher

Throughout my journey with Reiki, I have found that some of life's greatest lessons have not come from books or classrooms. They have come from quietly observing the natural world.

A tree teaches patience.

A river teaches trust.

The changing seasons teach acceptance.

A seed teaches hope.

Nature never struggles to become what it was created to be.

An oak tree does not try to become a pine.

A rose does not compare itself to a daisy.

Each expresses its own beauty in its own time.

Perhaps we would know more peace if we allowed ourselves the same freedom.

So often we measure ourselves against others. We wonder whether we are successful enough, spiritual enough, wise enough, or accomplished enough. Yet nature reminds us that every living thing grows according to its own season.

There is no competition.

There is only unfolding.

The Seasons Within Us

Just as the earth experiences spring, summer, autumn, and winter, so do we.

There are seasons of excitement and creativity.

There are seasons of challenge and uncertainty.

There are seasons of rest.

There are seasons of growth.

Sometimes we resist the season we are in because we believe we should be somewhere else.

But every season has something to teach us.

Winter teaches us to rest.

Spring teaches us to begin again.

Summer teaches us to flourish.

Autumn teaches us to let go.

None of these seasons is better than another.

Each prepares us for the next.

Looking back over my own life, I can now see that many of the periods I once considered difficult became the times when I learned the most. Growth often happened quietly, beneath the surface, long before I recognised it.

Just as roots grow unseen before new leaves appear, our own inner growth is often taking place long before others can see it.

Reiki and the Rhythm of Life

One of the reasons I continue to love Reiki is that it reminds me to slow down and pay attention.

Reiki is not separate from everyday life.

It is found in the way we greet another person with kindness.

It is found in taking a slow breath before reacting.

It is found in sitting quietly beneath a tree and noticing the beauty around us.

It is found in choosing compassion when criticism would be easier.

These small moments become our practice.

The more aware we become, the more we begin to notice the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Every sunrise becomes a reminder of hope.

Every gentle breeze becomes an invitation to pause.

Every flower reminds us that beauty often unfolds gradually.

Walking Gently on the Earth

Growing spiritually also invites us to consider how we walk upon this earth.

The natural world gives so much without asking for recognition.

The trees offer shade.

The rivers provide water.

The birds fill the morning with song.

The earth supports every step we take.

Perhaps one way of expressing gratitude is to care for the world that continually cares for us.

This may be as simple as planting a tree, tending a garden, reducing waste, or taking time to appreciate the places that bring us peace.

Every small act of care becomes an expression of respect for the life that surrounds us.

A Personal Reflection

Over the years, people have often asked me where I feel closest to Spirit.

My answer is rarely inside a building.

It is often while walking quietly through nature.

When I stand beside the ocean, watch the sunrise, or sit beneath an old tree, I am reminded that I do not need to search for life's mystery.

I only need to become still enough to notice it.

Nature has a remarkable way of bringing us back to the present moment.

Not because it gives us answers, but because it gently reminds us that we are already part of something much greater than ourselves.

Growing from Within

This month, I invite you to reflect on your own growth.

Not the goals you have achieved.

Not the things you own.

But the person you are becoming.

Ask yourself:

How have I grown during the past year?

What qualities have become stronger within me?

Where have I become more compassionate?

Where have I become more patient?

What am I ready to nurture in this new season?

Growth is not always measured by what we accomplish.

Sometimes it is measured by how gently we treat ourselves.

Sometimes it is measured by the peace we carry into our relationships.

Sometimes it is measured by our willingness to begin again.

A Spring Practice

Choose one place in nature that you enjoy.

It might be your garden, a local park, a beach, a forest, or simply a quiet place beneath the open sky.

Visit this place once each week throughout September.

Leave your phone in your pocket.

Walk slowly.

Notice five things you have never noticed before.

Listen without trying to interpret.

Observe without trying to change anything.

Allow nature to remind you that life unfolds one moment at a time.

When you return home, write a few thoughts in your journal.

You may discover that the quiet lessons of nature stay with you long after the walk has ended.

Monthly Reflection

This month, carry one simple question with you:

“How can I grow while remaining true to myself?”

Do not rush to answer it.

Let it accompany you as spring unfolds around you.

Sometimes the deepest insights arrive gently, like the first blossom of the season.

A Blessing for Spring

May the returning light remind you that every new day offers another beginning.

May you find joy in the smallest signs of growth.

May you learn from the patience of the trees and the quiet strength of the mountains.

May you trust that your own journey is unfolding in its own perfect season.

May your heart remain open to wonder.

May your spirit grow with kindness.

And may you walk gently upon this beautiful earth, knowing that every step you take is part of your own unique path.

With gratitude and blessings,
